Murray Hill was an actual “hill” before it was leveled off with one construction project after another. The name itself was taken from the first family that lived in the area. In the 18th century Robert and Mary Murray built their house on top of a hill located at modern day 36th Street and Park Avenue. It quickly became known as “Murray Hill.” The area is now home to quaint townhouses, brownstones, row houses, as well as newer luxury high rises offering spectacular city and river views.
